KEMET (YAGEO Group) has extended its HRA family of high-reliability multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) with the new Z-Level screening tier. The HRA Z-Level series is designed to close the gap between commercial/automotive-grade MLCCs and fully MIL-qualified components, offering significantly higher capacitance density while maintaining tightly controlled screening, testing, and lot traceability.
Built on the established HRA X-Level platform, the Z-Level variant adds enhanced in-process inspection and testing, more closely aligned with MIL-PRF-32535 T-Level expectations, making it a strong fit for longer-duration or more mission-critical programs than X-Level parts, which align with M-Level requirements.

The HRA series addresses this by combining YAGEO/KEMET's patented Base Metal Electrode (BME) technology with defense-grade screening protocols, enabling up to 5x the capacitance of comparable MIL-PRF-32535-qualified devices in the same footprint. Screening Levels Explained
Both levels apply voltage conditioning and post-electrical testing with defined percent-defective-allowed (PDA) criteria to screen out early-life failures before parts reach assembly — a key consideration for qualification and early field deployment in defense and space programs.
For applications exposed to vibration, shock, or thermal cycling, the HRA series also offers a flexible termination option. A conductive silver-epoxy layer sits between the ceramic body and the outer plating, absorbing PCB flex and thermal stress. This is particularly relevant for:
