KEMET (YAGEO Group): FG-R04 Series - New Fluxgate-Based Residual Current Sensor for EV Charging Applications
The YAGEO Group FG-R04 series is an open-loop, fluxgate-based residual current sensor capable of detecting both AC and DC leakage currents simultaneously. It provides individual open-drain alarm outputs for each fault type as well as an analog output for continuous current indication - enabling system designers to implement precise, standards-compliant protection in EV charging infrastructure.
An integrated test coil allows functional self-testing via a dedicated TEST input pin, ensuring the sensor and its alarm circuit remain verifiable during product lifetime.
Key Benefits
- Open-loop fluxgate technology for simultaneous AC and DC residual current detection
- PCB-mountable with vertical busbar design (through-hole, wave-soldering compatible)
- Individual open-drain digital alarm outputs plus analog output (PIN 3, AOUT)
- Integrated self-test coil for functional alarm testing
- 3,000 A surge current immunity (8/20 µs waveform)
- ASIL B compliant as Safety Element out of Context (SEooC)
- Composed entirely of AEC-Q certified parts
- RoHS compliant
- Wide operating temperature: −40°C to +105°C
Product Variants & Standards Compliance
Three variants are available, each targeting different regulatory frameworks:
| Part Number | Standards | Region / Use Case |
| FG-R04-4AA | IEC 62752:2016/A1:2018, IEC 62955:2018, UL 2231-2 CCID20 | EU + US, IC-CPD / Wallbox |
| FG-R04-4BA | IEC 62752:2016/A1:2018, IEC 62955:2018 | EU, IC-CPD / Wallbox |
| FG-R04-4GA | UL 2231-2 CCID5 & CCID20 | US market, dual CCID alarm |
The FG-R04 undergoes a comprehensive test regime to ensure reliability in harsh automotive and industrial charging environments:
- ESD immunity: ±2,000 V HBM (1,500 Ω / 100 pF) and ±800 V CDM — both passed
- Radiated EMC immunity: 20 V/m, 80 MHz–1 GHz per IEC 61000-4-3
- Automotive narrowband radiated immunity: 50 V/m per ISO 11452-2 (ALSE)
- Bulk Current Injection (BCI): 100 mA, 20–200 MHz per ISO 11452-4
- Surge current immunity: 3,000 A peak (8/20 µs) per IEC 62955 §9.18.2
- Dielectric strength: 1,500 Vrms (60 s) and 5,500 Vrms impulse (1.2/50 µs) between signal pins and primary wire
